Sexual Trauma

Sexual Trauma

Our team at Family Resilience provides a place for people of all sexual and gender identities to explore the impact of sexual trauma on their lives in a safe and regulating environment. The impact of sexual trauma can be struggles with emotions, relationships, values, sense of self, intimacy, and lead to stress and dysregulation of the nervous system.

Creating a supportive, empowering and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship is our first priority. Then, we see the recovery from Sexual Trauma as a 2 step process.  First, we want there to be enough regulation – an ability to recover – on board for a client to handle a bigger challenge.  We would help you to understand your own body and process, your own recovery process and to develop the skills to get ready to manage challenges without it disrupting your life.  Then – we will do reprocessing of memories, going at the pace that is again – the least disruptive to your life.

At FRG, we know that healing the wounds of sexual trauma requires mindfulness and attunement so that all survivors can find their voice and become more embodied after sexual trauma. And as always we address and support the healing in families and couples that sometimes needs to happen. We love to see the empowerment and triumph that results!

MALE SURVIVORS of Sexual Trauma

FRG has a special dedication to reaching out to male-identifying sexual trauma survivors in order to help them come out of silence and heal. Our men face many unique barriers to naming, disclosing, reporting and getting support after sexual trauma. The journey of accepting and recognizing the impact of sexual abuse can be a complicated and overwhelming process. Male survivors, in particular, often lack access to resources and expert services that address their specific needs. Processing feelings of isolation, shame, betrayal, humiliation, anger, and confusion about sexuality after the experience of sexual trauma is complicated in a larger society that often suppresses men’s capacity to express feelings and develop body awareness. We work hard to create a different environment of trust and safety.  Finally, we will bring our signature work of seeing a need to support families or couples as they grapple with this issue.

FEMALE SURVIVORS of Sexual Trauma

Our team at Family Resilience provides a place for women to explore the impact of sexual trauma on their lives in a safe and regulating environment. We understand the importance of a supportive, empowering and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship as our first priority. So often, sexual trauma is perpetrated by someone who is known to the survivor. The impact of such trauma can result in struggles with emotions, relationships, values, sense of self, intimacy, and lead to stress and dysregulation of the nervous system. At FRG, we know that healing the wounds of sexual trauma requires mindfulness and attunement so that all survivors can find their voice and become more embodied after sexual trauma. And as always we address and support the healing in families that sometimes needs to happen. We love to see the empowerment and triumph that results!

“Your practice is truly phenomenal. The team environment is incredible and I love how welcoming not just my therapist is, but all of the other team members as well. It feels like a community and I am so incredibly grateful that I was connected to FRG. Thank you all so much. Words cannot even express how thankful I am!”
