Sport Performance and Injury Recovery

Many team coaches are so busy with team schedules, practice plans, strategy, etc that they do not have the time to devote to the psychological needs for their athletes and performers. If a performer’s mental health is not adequately supported, however, their performance will not reach its peak.

While others here at Family Resilience Group support athletes and their families, Courtney Flores in particular draws on her wisdom as a former Division 1 Athlete and Coach to help young people maximize their performance potential. She is able to address a wide range of clinical barriers to performance using both mind and body/movement support. Many mental performance coaches are able to teach cognitive skills for growth mindset, visualization, and positive self-talk; however, these skills do not always land deeply in an athlete because the coach is not incorporating their nervous system and body reactions in sessions.

Examples of sport performance issues that Courtney and her team treat include freeze states (yips, mental blocks, “choking” under pressure), burn out, injury recovery/depression, fear of re-injury, performance anxiety, coping with the coach/player relationship. We also address differences in learning and in culture, helping there be a non-oppressive, safe environment for peak performance and joy.

Whether or not you are currently experiencing a psychological challenge in your sport, you can always up-skill your psychological tools for maximum potential.

Sessions can be individual or offered to a team/group.
